Would you like a coping strategy for the birth of your baby?

Would you prefer to labour without drugs?

Would you like to understand more about the process of birth?

Would you like to use deep relaxation techniques to birth your baby?

This is a specifically designed course to help you if you wish to give birth without drugs or epidural.  You can learn deep relaxation techniques to use during your labour. You will be shown how to encourage the release of endorphins, your body's natural painkillers.

To complement the relaxation, you can learn special visualisation exercises to aid your labour and birth.  It is well recognised how the mind can stimulate actions in the body.  For example, making love. Thoughts bring about arousal and desire.  Think about your favourite food or chocolate and your mouth will water.

In a similar way, fear is a thought and will stimulate the production of adrenaline.  Adrenaline will reduce the release of oxytocin - the hormone that contacts your uterus.  This is apparent in all female mammals. Animals will ensure they are in a safe environment, away from preditors, in order to birth.  If they sense danger, the adrenaline will prevent them from being vunerable and birthing in a dangerous place.

Visualisation and relaxation can help to allay any fears that you may hold.  This in turn will keep the production of adrenaline to normal levels and allow the normal release of oxytocin to work on your uterus.

Visualisation and deep slow breathing can give you a focus during your contractions.  With practice you will have no need to think about what you need to do when you go into labour because you will be comfortable and familiar with the techniques.  The more you practice, the easier it becomes to do.

It is a distraction to what the uterus is doing, you are aware, yet the contractions do not bother you.

Whether this is your first baby or if you have already experienced labour, these easy to learn techniques can be of great benefit to you and your baby. Babies born without the mother having had pain relieving drugs are more alert and more responsive to begin breast feeding.

Many women throughout the world give birth without fear and without the need for drugs. Each of these women tune into their natural intuitive ability to manage the pressure waves of the uterus during labour.

Many of these women use deep relaxation or hypnosis for these are very intuitive techniques.

The course is short consisting of one two hour session and two, one and a half hour sessions. You can attend alone or with your birthing partner. It is recommended that you start your practice at around 30 weeks of pregnancy. The cost is £150 and includes 2 relaxation CDs and many handouts.

It is also recommended to book well in advance to ensure you have a place.

This course is not associated with HypnoBirthing® in any way.
